I know a bunch of people. But instead of mentioning them here, I'm going to use this space as a personal statement of sorts. I believe that God lives inside of us, whether we give him a name (and gender) or not. This is a belief that comes from my conviction in the incomprehensibility of life and space and time. In the face of everything, what to do? Well, I think listening to my own conscience is the best answer. God IS your conscience. Every person has a conscience: Osama Bin Laden, George W. Bush, you, me, and the cab driver. I like being alive the most when I am able to draw out that consciousness, in myself, and in the other people. I guess by conscience I mean more than just a feeling about right and wrong, but rather your first and most basic honest reaction to things. I see this a lot in very young children and also from time to time in very old people, especially those with minds that have wandered into other places. For the rest of us, there's a lot of peeling away at layers to see how we really feel about things. In my own experience, negative feelings, anger, annoyance, frustration, are usually a result of an underlying insecurity or fear we have regarding ourselves. To rid ourselves of these seems to be an impossible task, but if we see ourselves as we really are, in all our glorious ineptitude and perpetual neediness, but also as natural lovers and givers, then our consciences can begin to go about their business in a less hindered way. I believe this is the way to a a more peaceful world. Peace starts within each person. People will wage war as long as there is war waging inside of them.

This is a video I love. This baby, about 0:41 through, stops laughing and smiling completely, and looks to his/her left. There is a look of complete relaxation, before the laughter sets in again ...to let ourselves be, and respond, and change, and let go, and grab on, and respond again. that's the best way we can be here...without fear.
